Graduation Day

Posted

Graduation Day is an important day for many in our county.  I have had the honor of meeting students from all five schools in our county.  We are so very fortunate to live in a small area where God and old-fashioned values are still taught. Many of these seniors will be going off to college and they will learn whether their values remain the same.  We have some good students in all five schools.

A great transition is unfolding. I remember receiving my High School diploma more than 59 years ago, and how my future bride and I had to do a lot of growing up overnight.  Things happened with the tragic deaths of her dad, grandfather, and two others.  Her mother was crippled because of the automobile accident, and we weren’t sure for some time if she would make it. We were not prepared to be adults, but now we were, and because of values taught to both of us by our parents, those values endured.  We made mistakes but we were able to keep pursuing our goals.

When we graduated from High School, the Vietnam War was going on. Many of our schoolmates enlisted and later some of us received our draft notices.  Some of our very good friends died in that war.

No one knows what lies ahead.  But because of Him, the young people of Tyler County can endure and be successful!  Some will make bad choices, and those values will be put on the back burner, so to speak.  But after a while many will come to their senses and become responsible citizens.

We need to pray for all graduates, and we need to pray for their parents.

There will be another “Graduation Day”.  Are you ready?

Consider James 4:13-15.  “Look here, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year.  We will do business there and make a profit.’  How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow?  Your life is like the morning fog—it's here a little while, then it's gone.  What you ought to say is, ‘If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that’."
