The Onalaska City Council approved a resolution authorizing the Texas Community Development Block Grant Program application on behalf of the city for the community development fund during its Nov. 12 regular meeting.
The application will be submitted to the Texas Department of Agriculture and entered into competition for funding, including the city’s commitment to provide $37,500 in matching funds for the activities outlined in the application.
A memorandum of understanding between the SPCA of Polk County, Texas and the City of Onalaska was approved, as was an interlocal road maintenance agreement between Polk County and the City of Onalaska.
Council approved the appointment of a review committee for the purpose of determining the criteria to select and rate administrative and engineering service providers for the GLO CDR-DRRP.
Also approved was a policy regarding covered applications and prohibited technology.
Joshua Jenkins was approved as a reserve police officer.
Reports will be presented on behalf of the police department, fire department, fire marshal/fire inspector, building inspector/code enforcement officer and library representative.
The Onalaska Police Department responded to 855 events during the month of October, including 147 building checks, 161 extra patrols and 307 traffic stops, of which 187 warnings and 120 citations were issued.
The Onalaska Volunteer Fire Department responded to 42 calls in the city and 38 calls in the county for a total of 262 man-hours. The calls included one mutual aid call, 45 medical calls, two structure fires, one vehicle fire, 18 grass fires, two motor vehicle accidents, four lake rescues, six assistance calls and five landing zones.
The Onalaska fire marshal conducted one fire inspection and reviewed two plans for certificate of occupancy, conducted fire prevention at the schools, for the home-schooled youth and fire marshal bingo with the seniors. Additionally, the office was awarded 47 smoke detectors for the smoke detector program from the Insurance Council of Texas and State Farm.
Thirteen building permits were issued during the month of October and seven codes were enforced.
The library has 1,986 current patrons and a total of 9,545 holdings. It was open 22 days in October with 1,776 patron visits and 122 instances of computer usage. Income in the amount of $374.75 came in and 12 volunteer hours were logged.
Other business included approval of the minutes, payment of vouchers and financial reports.
