GROVETON — The Groveton ISD Board of Trustees kept the property tax rate the same for the new year’s budget.

Superintendent Jim Dillard said that at the Aug. 24 meeting, the board approved a rate of .6619, or 66.19 cents per $100 of property valuation. The rate is unchanged but will generate $2,461,958 in local taxes based on home valuations.

Last year the tax rate brought in $2,691,964; Dillard said the difference has to do with an increased homestead exemption on property taxes.

The budget approved by the board for instruction, development, transportation, food, maintenance, and security comes to $12,474,655, which includes funds from the state.

In a related matter, the board approved the tax rolls for Houston and Trinity counties.

In other business, the board:

  • approved campus needs and improvement plans for junior/senior campus;
  • discuss the district’s FIRST rating; which was 100 percent;
  • discussed last year’s security audit, which was performed by Region 6, and an upcoming district vulnerability assessment to be performed by the Texas Education Agency; and
  • discussed the district’s one resignation.
