Bobby Jackson Sr. is announcing his candidacy for reelection to the Livingston City Council in the Nov. 4 election.

Jackson was born in Livingston, started elementary school at Dunbar and graduated from Livingston High School in 1974. He entered the military in 1975 and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1979 where he was stationed in Germany.

Upon return to civilian life, Jackson went to work for the former Champion International, which is now known as Georgia Pacific. He began work at Champion International in 1980 and retired in 2019.

Upon his retirement, Jackson started his own trucking company – B&P Trucking Hot Shot Service in 2019.

For four years he served as president of the Pineywoods Trail Riders Association, one of the largest black trail ride associations in East Texas. He currently serves as president of Dunbar Committee in Livingston. Presently in its fifth year, this is the group that hosts the annual Juneteenth Celebration and Parade.

Jackson is also a supporter of youth and coaches Little Dribblers Basketball.

“I’ve been a city councilman for two years. I’m running again to try to help our city grow with the population and I also want to help improve infrastructure within the city. My goal for this next term, if reelected, is to try and get a park put in the black neighborhood because we need one,” he said.

Jackson and his wife Pamela are the parents of four grown children and have 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
