Jumping to conclusions

Posted

Jumping to conclusions is a constant problem. Jesus addressed this in Matthew 7:1, 2. "Judge not, that you be not judged. For with the judgment you pronounce you will be judged, and with the measure you use it will be measured to you.”  Jesus also said in John 7:24, “Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgment."

So, why do we do it? Could it be we just like to jump to conclusions? Could it be that it makes us feel superior? Could it be that we like playing judge? What do you think?

I ask these questions not only to our readers but to myself. There are times that I have jumped to conclusions. I try not to do that now. I have learned that I don’t always have the facts. So, why play judge. Why comment about something I know nothing about.

Someone looks different, sounds different and acts different and we automatically judge. Jesus said don't do it. Don't jump to conclusions without the facts. And even when I have the facts what am I going to do with those facts?

It seems that a favorite past time is to believe the worst. Why?

Jumping to conclusions usually says something about where our heart really is.

Years ago, a gentleman who I worked with at radio station I worked at was drinking coffee with me. After my friend left another friend said, “He isn’t playing with a full deck, is he?” I responded by saying the man was sick. He had the early stages of MS. The friend who had made the unsolicited comment dropped his head. You see he was sick, too.

In fact, we are all sick, aren’t we? Think about it.
