Law enforcement investigates threat, scam

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office recently received a report of threats made toward Camp Cho-Yeh. Deputies began investigating the incident and attempted to locate the suspect, Mario Bernal, 23, who is a former employee at Camp Cho-Yeh.

After obtaining a warrant for Bernal’s arrest for the felony offense of terroristic threat, Polk County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, along with the assistance of the Livingston Police Department, were able to locate and arrest Bernal without incident. He is currently in the Polk County Jail on a $50,000 bond.

In other recent activity, he Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a report from a local resident of a retirement community who had been scammed. Detectives investigated the incident in which police say Matthew “Billy” Boyce, 38, scammed the resident out of several thousand dollars.

According to law enforcement, Boyce told the victim he would repair the roof, yet made no repairs and still charged the victim several thousand dollars. Detectives issued a felony warrant for exploitation of the elderly, a state-jail felony. Boyce was arrested in Athens, Texas, on June 20 and transferred to the Polk County Jail. He has since bonded out.
