Local recognized in conservation awards program

Bob David of Chester, Texas was recognized for his participation in the Texas Conservation Awards Program sponsored by District IV, Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board and the Association of Texas Soil and Water Conservation Districts at a May 1 award banquet in Rusk. He placed first in the Forestry Conservationist category.

David was recognized by the Polk-San Jacinto SWCD for implementing conservation best management practices on his farm. These practices included natural resources, forestry management and wildlife.

The Texas Conservation Awards Program began in the late 1970s to recognize conservationists and the vital role they play in managing Texas’ natural resources. The purpose of the program is to acknowledge, recognize and honor individuals that dedicate their time and efforts to the conservation of natural resources.

The program provides an opportunity for competition and incentives to expand and improve conservation efforts as well as the wise utilization of renewable natural resources. Categories recognized through the Texas Conservation Awards Program are: Poster Contest, Junior and Senior Essay Contests, Forestry Conservationist, Conservation Farmer, Outstanding Soil and Water Conservation District, Conservation Rancher, Friend of Conservation, Conservation Teach and Wildlife Conservationist.
