Mark Willis, 64, of Groveton, passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2024, at his home. Born on December 4, 1959, in Houston, Mark was the son of Melton Willis and Seba Janice (Horn) Willis Oliver. He spent numerous years serving as a correctional officer for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice until he was no longer able to work.
Mark was known for his keen sense of humor, always eager to make others laugh and bring joy to those around him. He cherished his family and loved spending time with them. A lifelong resident of Groveton, Mark had a deep love for the land, dedicating time to his garden and tending to his dogs and chickens. He also found happiness in the quiet pursuits of reading and fishing, passions he enjoyed throughout his life.
For the past 20 years, Mark cared for his beloved mother, Seba, until her passing, demonstrating his devotion to his family. He was equally devoted to the love of his life, Ignacio “Iggy” Avitia III. Their love and companionship spanned 33 beautiful years, with Iggy remaining steadfastly by Mark’s side through every step.
Mark is preceded in death by his father, Melton Willis; mother, Seba Oliver; and siblings Kathy Ringo, Brenda Cathey, Marsha Patterson, Rusty Willis, and Gerald Willis. He is survived by his devoted partner, Ignacio Avitia III; along with his cherished nieces, Tammy Fossland of Kingwood, Malinda Mann of Baytown, and Shelby Dickerson of Lufkin. He also leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
