Polk County Chamber of Commerce President/CEO Brenda Clifton presented an update on the chamber during its 90th annual Awards Gala at the Polk County Commerce Center Thursday.
“Our chamber has 451 members and we had 26 ribbon cuttings and welcomed 51 new members over the past year. We continue to strive to make our community a better place to work and raise our families. I encourage all of you to get involved with your chamber. Your attendance at chamber events and support of local businesses can only strengthen our area and assist all of us in making 2026 a great year for Polk County,” Clifton said.
“We have an exciting year planned,” Clifton said, as she apprised the crowd of the numerous events planned for the year. These include:
“Put these on your calendars or call Kim or myself at the chamber to see how you can become involved with any of these. We still have sponsorship packages available for our events and would love to visit with you about it,” Clifton said.
In closing, Outgoing Chairman Matt Anderson passed the gavel to Chairman Cheryl Downing.
“Thank you truly for the trust you’ve placed in me. It’s an honor to serve as the incoming board chair of the Polk County Chamber of Commerce and I’m grateful for the confidence of this board, our members and our incredible business community,” Downing said.
“First, I want to recognize and thank our outgoing board chair and board leadership – Matt Anderson, Andrew Boyce, Brandon Wigent, Mandy Wilson, Kole Puckett and Joyce Knierim. Your dedication, vision and steady guidance have strengthened this chamber and positioned us well for the future. I’m thankful for the foundation you’ve built and for your continued support as we move forward,” Downing said.
“I also want to thank our chamber staff – Brenda and Kim Jernigan. Your behind the scenes work often goes unseen, but it never goes unfelt. You are the engine that keeps this organization running and we could not do this without you,” Downing said.
“From Lake Livingston to Lake Tombigbee, and from the Neches River to the Trinity River, the Polk County Chamber of Commerce represents more than businesses. It represents people – entrepreneurs who took a leap, employers who invest in their teams, community leaders who believe that when business thrives the whole county thrives. I’m proud to be part of an organization that champions collaboration, innovation and opportunity,” Downing said.
“As we look ahead, my goal as board chair is simple – to listen, to lead with purpose, and to help ensure that this chamber continues to be a strong voice for our members. That means supporting business growth, fostering meaningful connections, and working together to address the challenges and opportunities facing our local economy,” Downing said.
“Together, I’m confident we can build on our momentum and make a lasting, positive impact. Thank you again for this opportunity. Let’s get to work on our 91st year,” Downing said.
