Emergency management plan approved

The 2025 update of the emergency management basic plan for Polk and Trinity counties was approved by the Livingston City Council during its March 11 regular meeting.

An amendment to the annual firefighting agreement between the City of Livingston and Polk County for the fiscal year that began Oct. 1, 2024 and ends Sept. 30, 2025 was approved, reflecting an increase up to $61,111.14 that the city will receive for the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department.

A proposed ordinance adopting the City of Livingston purchasing and procurement policy, including the federal grant procurement policy, was approved.

A public hearing was scheduled for 5 p.m. April 8 to receive comments on a petition from Ameristeel International Inc. to vacate, abandon and close a portion of Manning Street.

Council was apprised of CenterPoint Energy’s acknowledgment of filing and review of the 2025 annual gas reliability infrastructure program interim rate adjustment to be effective April 19, 2025.

During his monthly update on projects and events, City Manager Bill S. Wiggins reported that the city learned of a sewer leak on Choates Creek about two weeks ago but that the situation was repaired and the city worked with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality to resolve the issue.

Wiggins reported that Livingston Fire School is slated for March 21-22, with the opening ceremony to be held at 8 a.m. March 22 at the Livingston Volunteer Fire Department Fire Training Field.

The city will host its annual Easter Eggstravaganza April 12 at Pedigo Park. Pictures with the Easter bunny will start at 9:30 a.m. and the egg hunt will start at 11 a.m. with 20,000 eggs.

Ongoing work continues on a variety of commercial projects presently underway and there are also 15 residential projects underway as well.

Council entered into an executive session to consult with the city attorney and deliberate personnel. However, no action was taken upon return to open session.

Other business included approval of the minutes of the Feb. 11 meeting and accounts over $500.
