To promote recycling, beautification

Posted

Polk County Recycling & Beautification (PCRB) is inviting artists of all ages to participate in its fourth annual Art Contest by showcasing your creativity while promoting recycling, beautification and care for the environment. Gather items that are usually thrown away or recycled and create a work of art.

There are two categories this year – 3D art and 2D art. In the 3D art category, you may create a sculpture or three-dimensional artwork using at least 75% used, recycled or recyclable materials. In the 2D art category, you may create a drawing or painting with a recycling, beautification, nature, or earth-friendly theme.

There are two divisions – the youth, or family, division and the adult division which is for ages 14 and older.

A complete list of rules may be found at pcrbtexas.org. To enter the contest, visit the recycling center or pcrbtexas.org for an entry form.

Completed artwork and the accompanying entry form should be submitted to the Polk County Recycling Center by July 29. The center is located at 10311 Hwy. 146 and is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.

All eligible entries will be displayed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Livingston Municipal Library located at 707 N. Tyler in Livingston.

Winning artwork may be displayed in local businesses throughout August. Photos of winning entries and artists will be featured on the PCRB website and Facebook page.

PCRB is a nonprofit organization that has partnered with Polk County to provide a reliable recycling service for the residents of East Texas, sustained by grants, donations and the sale of recyclable materials. It operates the recycling center which accepts #1-#2 plastics, flattened corrugated cardboard and aluminum and steel “tin” cans.

Only clean materials will be recycled. Please rinse or wipe plastic containers and steel cans and keep cardboard dry.

To date, the center has diverted over 320,000 pounds of recyclable material from the Polk County Landfill.
