The 80th annual Trinity-Neches FFA and 4-H Livestock Show and Rodeo kicked off Saturday and will run through April 3. Matt Anderson, a representative of the organization, spoke to the Livingston Lions Club Wednesday about some of the changes that are underway this year.

Anderson said the event is open to all youth in the state of Texas and that the organization has made some changes to benefit the students and the community and to try to eliminate the late nights from previous years.

The livestock shows begin today (Sunday) and continue through Wednesday. The barbecue cook-off is Thursday and the sale is Friday at 1 p.m.

“This is a big deal for these kids. Come out and support our youth and let them know their hard work is noticed. This is about the future of agriculture – teaching it and instilling it,” Anderson said.

“Each species has a breeding show and there are showmanship shows for the student after each market show to show their skills and hard work,” Anderson said.

The pee wee show is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday and it is for any kiddo that is not old enough to participate in the real show. These children may bring a stuffed animal, a dog, kitten or baby chick.

The no limits show is slated for 10 a.m. Thursday. It is an opportunity to include special needs students who use other students’ animals and get the chance to have the experience of showing livestock.

The annual event is open to the public and is held at the Barney Wiggins Memorial Arena located at 101 Fair St. in Livingston.
