Matt Anderson, vice president of the Trinity-Neches Livestock Show and Rodeo, provided the program for the Livingston Lions Club Wednesday, discussing the 79th annual Trinity-Neches Livestock Show and Rodeo which began Saturday and runs through April 5.
Anderson said the organization changed some dates to better accommodate the schedules of the local students participating. He said approximately 140 students from throughout Polk County are showing and that every school district in the county has students participating either through 4-H, FFA or home school.
Anderson said the heifer show has been split this year into two shows – one for American and one for European.
The sale is slated for 1 p.m. April 5 and the top 15 of each species will be auctioned. “Kids will be coming around asking for donations for their animals. We love for the buyers to come out and take pictures with the kids and talk to the kids.”
Anderson also spoke a little about the no limits show which is slated for 10 a.m. on April 3. This event allows disabled youth to come out and use other kids’ animals. “It really shows the heart and soul of the organization.”
He said a little over $600,000 was raised last year and that it all goes back to the kids.
