Personnel, street improvements on agenda

Personnel issues and street improvements dominate the agenda for the next regular meeting o the Onalaska City Council at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Council is expected to accept the resignations of Telecommunications Officers Denise Ross and Brittany Prince, although Prince is expected to remain available for the labor pool. In related activity, Council will consider approval of up to two telecommunications officers with the standard probationary period.

The addition of $3,313.50 in local funds for engineering for the General Land Office (GLO) Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program MIT MOD grant for the Magnolia and Payne Street improvement project will be considered for approval.

Council will consider action on the selection of an administrative service provider to assist the city with its applications for and implementation of one or more contracts, if awarded, from the GLO’s 2024 CDBG Local Communities Program. The city is considering applying for the funding to support eligible activities related to disaster relief, long-term recovery, and restoration of infrastructure or economic revitalization following the 2024 Texas severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes and flooding and Hurricane Beryl.

An addendum to the memorandum of understanding between the city and the Onalaska Independent School District regarding the school resource officer will be considered for approval.

Council will discuss and consider approving an ordinance for the annexation of Magnolia Cemetery.

A variance request for the Onalaska Professional Building will be discussed and considered for approval.

Council will also discuss and consider action regarding the continuation of the order prohibiting outdoor burning.

Departmental reports will be presented on behalf of the police department, fire department, fire marshal/fire inspector, building inspector/code enforcement officer and library representative.

Other items on the agenda include approval of the minutes, vouchers and financial reports.
