FAIR. Water stain; 65 degrees; 0.57 feet below pool. Very few anglers on the water. Expect fish to start pushing shallow as the water warms.

Bob Sandlin

GOOD. Water stained; 50 degrees; 0.28 feet above pool. Bass are spawning in wind-protected shallow pockets in 4-6 feet of water. Fish are biting Texas rigged creature baits, jigs, and soft jerkbaits. Some fish are still waiting for warmer water temperatures, staging on hard cover near spawning flats and can be caught using a jerkbait or shallow crankbaits and bladed jigs. Report by Blake Doughtie, Lake Country Lunkers Lures and Guide Service. Look for small male bass around sandy banks in mouths of coves. Small streamers and craw patterns should produce bass. Crappie and catfish should be moving shallow when the weather stabilizes, wooly buggers should work well. Slow-sinking small fish patterns might work well. Clousers on sunny rocky shores might draw a strike. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service.

Caddo

SLOW. Water stained; 67 degrees; 0.94 feet above pool. The coming new moon is bringing fish on trees to spawn. Numbers of bass can be caught around the trees with swimbaits, swim jigs, chatterbaits or with slow presentation flukes or wacky style senkos. Old school folks can swim a lizard around these trees for some fun this time of year. The frog bite and pop r bite is only weeks away as the fish guarding their fry will blow up on those top water baits. The water level is good, but the salvina can be an issue in some places in the backwaters. Wind can be your friend, so if it is a southwest 20 mph day grab that chatterbait and hit every tree you can. Remember to throw your bait past the tree and swim to it, do not throw directly at the tree with a big splash as you will not get bit that way because it spooks the fish. The next few weeks are shaping up to fish well on this divine lake. Report provided by Vince Richards, Caddo Lake Fishing & Fellowship.

Conroe

GREAT. Water stained; 63 degrees; 0.01 feet above pool. Catfish are good in baited areas from 10-40 feet of water. Drifting natural baits along channels and flats has also been producing some nice eaters and trophy class fish. The shad spawn should start any day and with that the bulkhead bite should kick off. Largemouth bass have been good with some very nice fish being landed still full of eggs. Report by Bradley Doyle, with Bradley Guide Service. Crappie are fair to good in the shallows to 21 feet around structure or timber using jigs. Hybrids are now back to jigging or using live bait, large goldfish or large minnows on flats and drop offs in 14-33 feet of water. Always wear your life jacket! Report by Mike Cason, Fishical Therapy.

Fork

GOOD. Water Stained; 62 degrees; 0.32 feet below pool. Water temperature is 58-66 degrees. Bass are pulling up shallow. There is a good late evening bite with Texas rigs, chatterbaits, flukes, wacky rig senkos in 1-3 feet. Report by Marc Mitchell, Lake Fork Guide Service. Smaller male black bass are moving to the shallows on warm windy banks. Fish the banks with the most sunlight. Bait fish and worm patterns are a good choice. Look for females close-by ready to move to nests. Slow presentations work best. The crappie should be moving shallowly in 60-65-degree water. Wooly buggers can be a good choice. Report by Guide Alex Guthrie, Fly Fish Fork Guide Service. Lake Fork crappie fishing has been steady with numbers of big fish possible when the winds allow. Good numbers of crappie on timber in 6-20 feet close to spawning areas. Cold fronts lately have been pushing the fish back out deeper and we may only see one or two days of shallow fish in between fronts. If you find a spawning area with 62-64 degree surface temperatures you may be able to find fish in 2-4 feet. Some fish are holding on bridges, but the bite can change not only by the day but by the hour this time of year. Wind directions and wind speeds are dictating a lot of the crappie’s location and demeanor. The bite is good most days if you can get a bait right on a fish. Minnows, hand tied jigs and soft plastics will all produce this time of year. Report by Jacky Wiggins, Jacky Wiggins Guide Service.

Look for the larger females to be holding off on the first depth change leading into the coves and spawning flats as well as tucked under boat houses waiting to spawn. Square bills, spinnerbaits and weightless plastics will be the best bite but do not overlook the early topwater bite as well! The crappie bite is good in 15 feet of water in the creek channels all the way into the grass depending on which area of the lake you are fishing. The 64 bridge and twin bridges have fish very shallow while the south ends of the lake are a week or two behind them on the pattern. Minnows on slip floats are outperforming jigs for crappie.
