Rachel Lois Broussard (nee Thibodeaux), 100, of Woodville, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 29, 2026.
There will be a gathering of family and friends in celebration of Rachel’s life from 2 – 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville, Texas.
Rachel was born March 14, 1926 to Leon & Paulita Thibodeaux at Hotel Dieu in New Orleans, Louisiana. She moved to Port Arthur, Texas at the age of 7. There she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and Port Arthur Business College. After graduation, she worked at Port Arthur Abstract Company.
She married Gilbert “Tubba” Broussard in 1950 and worked until Brian was born. She was a loving wife, mother and friend to many. They bought their little slice of heaven in Tyler County in the early 60’s and spent many weekends and vacations there in the A-frame cabin that they built. They moved to Tyler County permanently in1981 and became active in the community. Rachel was active in the Tyler County Art League and the Allan Shivers Library. She was accomplished at needlepoint and sewing and enjoyed many “crafty” things, but she most enjoyed visiting with people and telling stories. She also loved to decorate her home for every holiday. Rachel and Tubba enjoyed dancing and made many wonderful memories. She especially enjoyed her “Monday Group” which started out as a sewing group, but evolved into a social club with her dear friends. She enjoyed life to the fullest and her laugh and smile will forever be remembered by many.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Joseph “Tubba” Broussard, Jr; and parents, Leon & Paulita Thibodeaux.
She is survived by her son Brian Broussard and daughter-in-law Jeanne Harris; and a host of other family and friends.
Special thanks to her caregivers who helped her transition, especially Brenda Foster and Beverly Hickman.
Memorials may be made to Allan Shivers Library, 302 N. Charlton St., Woodville, Texas 75979 or Tyler County Art League, 210 W. Bluff St., Woodville, Texas 75979.
