Sara Lou Sheffield, 94, of Spurger passed away peacefully on December 1, 2024.
Born to William Asa and Mattie Horn, she lived in Tyler County most of her life. She worked many years as the cafeteria supervisor for Spurger ISD. Known to many as Mama, Nanaw, Sara Lou and to some as “Aunt Shorty,” she had a green thumb like no other, loved to cook, dance, collect frogs, and most of all have her family together.
Sara was preceded in death by her father, William Asa Horn; mother, Mattie M. Phillips Horn; husband, Gurvis P. Sheffield; infant daughter, Melinda Lou; granddaughter, Miranda Page Sheffield; brothers, Williams P. Horn and wife, Bonnie and Bailey Gene Horna and wife, Joyce.
She is survived by her loving family, children, Kathy Minter of Lufkin, Buddy Sheffield, and wife, Margaret of Spurger, Jo Anna Murphy and husband, Marshall of Spurger, Marcy Beckett and husband, Greg of Orange; grandchildren, Monica Turner and husband, Vaughn of Lufkin, Lori Jo Davis and husband, Wayne of Chester, Kari Beard, and husband, Greg of Spurger, Josi Chapman, and husband, Kyle of Spurger, Theresa Beckett and fiancé, Luke Whisneant of Orange, Katrina Richardson of Evadale, John Richardson of Colmesneil, Stephen Jasper of Spurger, Paula Siekas and husband, Tim of Tomball, Jennifer Murphy of Houston, Vicky Hanes and husband, Evan of Dallas, Pam Indihar and husband, Kevin of Denver; and all of Nanaw’s generations that she liked to brag about creating including many great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews as well as a host of other family members and friends.
The funeral service will be held Friday, December 6, 2024, at 1 p.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville, with Brother Larry Sheffield, nephew, officiating. Burial will follow at the Beech Creek Cemetery in Spurger. Visitation will be held Friday, December 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Vaughn Turner, John Richardson, Wayne Davis, Greg Beard, Kyle Chapman, Stephen Jasper, Markus Frankens, Kamrin Frankens, Braydin Davis, Luke Whisneant, Kody Welch, Shane Gray, and Jake Pattillo will serve as pallbearers. Coy Chapman, Kane Gray, and Kaul Welch will serve as honorary pallbearers.
