WOODVILLE – Woodville ISD recently named Loren Scoggins to lead its high school campus. Scoggins will replace Ron Zachary, who served as WHS principal for two years.

Scoggins comes to WISD from Livingston ISD, where she worked as assistant principal on its junior high campus for two years. Prior to that, she worked for Canton High School as an ag science teacher.

Scoggins spoke to a Rotary Club of Woodville meeting on Monday evening and made a presentation for goals for the new year for the WHS campus. Scoggins also introduced longtime Woodville educator Michelle Merchant as the new assistant principal for the campus.

Merchant is returning to WISD after a stint working for Kirbyville ISD.

Scoggins, as former WISD administrator Roschelle Springfield noted, is only the third female principal in the history of WHS.

Scoggins said she grew up in a family of educators in Apple Springs, and has worked in the financial sector, as well as her career in education. She married Woodville native Hunter Scoggins, and the two made their path back to Hunter’s hometown after a circuitous route that found them living and working in various parts of the state, including west Texas, for a spell.

Scoggins said she has come to love Woodville ever since she met Hunter many years ago.

Scoggins said the theme for the high school campus this year is to work toward “the gold standard,” and said that “the gold standard isn’t a destination, but a mindset of continuous growth.”

Merchant, who came to education after working in the prison system for more than a decade and working her way through college, said she is thankful for her new role at WISD.

“I truly thank God for Loren for giving me a shot to be a part of her team. I feel there are great things in store,” she said.
