On Sunday, Livingston First Baptist church, Livingston First United Methodist Church and Pine Forest Baptist all joined forces to help others in the area.
Serve Together is an annual community service project that allows churches in the area the opportunity to assist their neighbors the first weekend in May.
"I just think it's a great opportunity for us to show that the church is not a building, but it is people doing God's work," said Brad Butler, Livingston First Baptist Church's Pastor of Students and Families. "The guys who are coordinating it are looking for anything that we can do that doesn't benefit us. We will do military packs at the church, but it is nothing that benefits the church. We would never do yard work at the church, but we would at a widow's home or Camp Cho-Yeh or Lake Tomahawk."
The churches usually work on sites for around three hours, ending in a lunch together around noon.
"I ended up on five different projects this year, but we were spreading mulch and doing different stuff that we thought could benefit others. They are trying to find projects and trying to mobilize volunteers and assigning people projects. There are people who drive around and deliver cookies and drinks, there are people who pack lunches to get ready for lunch at the end, so it is an awful lot of stuff they do to get ready."
The project is during normal church hours as a reminder of doing God's work. Serve Together has existed for over a decade, reaching many in the community.
