The San Jacinto County Animal Rescue held an adoption day in Shepherd on Saturday. The event, held at Tractor Supply, featured some German shepherd crosses and Velma, an 8-month-old black-and-white with blue eyes. She is neutered and vaccinated and free to a good home.

•Both Senior Centers in our county have events coming up. Shepherd Senior Citizens Fundraiser is a Purse Bingo on Aug. 8 at Shepherd High School Cafeteria. Tickets are on sale at the Center, $30 before the event, $35 at the door. Gourmet box lunches and raffle tickets will be available too. Doors open at 5 p.m., Bingo starts at 6 p.m. Bingo is also on the menu on Wednesdays before lunch with Gregg Cones providing musical entertainment during the meal.
Coldspring Senior Center is nearly sold out of their tickets for the Talent Show on August 29. Music and hilarious skits and performances are part of this event as well as amazing talent. Tickets are $25 including dinner at 5 p.m., show following. Call in to buy your ticket or call (936) 653-4175 to reserve it.
Last Friday was Fish Friday at the Center, sponsored by A Caring Touch. Steven Vestal is the community liaison for this organization, and he spoke briefly about it and Livingston Manor. He explained how their services work, Home Health, Hospice and more with excellent service in all areas.
