Shirley Ann Jordan Spurlock, 88, of Woodville, slipped peacefully away from this earth and into the presence of her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ on Monday, June 8, 2026 at The Orchard Assisted Living Center in Woodville, Texas.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time on Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home in Woodville with burial following in Beech Creek Cemetery in Spurger, Texas.  Officiating will be her nephew, Dr. Byron McWilliams, assisted by Brother Jay Abernathy.  Serving as pallbearers will be Dan Spurlock, Chad Dickey, Steve Dickey, Johnny Davis, Bro. Kicker McWilliams, Monte McWilliams, Bro. David Clark, and Michael Maness.  Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Paul Hufnagel, Jordan McWilliams, Andy Armstrong, James Spurlock, Lucas Lemons, Irvin Hernandez, Bobby McWilliams, and Kelly McWilliams.

Shirley was born August 16, 1937 to Myles Wilson and Ruby Phillips Jordan in Spurger, Texas.  A native of Spurger, she was a 1955 graduate of Spurger High School.  She went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree from Sam Houston State Teacher’s College in May, 1958.  She started her teaching career at Cleveland ISD in 1958.  After getting married and starting her family, she taught at Woodville and Spurger schools for a total of 33 years.  She retired from Woodville ISD in 1995.

Upon returning to Tyler County in 1961, Shirley knew she was home.  She was a member of Heritage Civic Club, First Baptist Church of Woodville, and a member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Gideons International.

Shirley was a hard worker.  She and Toby had a tremendous work ethic that they passed on to their children.   She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend that had the most beautiful heart and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, J.B. Toby Spurlock; parents, Myles and Ruby Jordan; sister, Kitty Schuler and brother-in-law, John Henry Schuler; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Eleanor Spurlock; brothers-in-law, Chuck Ingle and Bill McWilliams; nephews, Kyle Mark McWilliams and John E. Schuler.

She is survived by her son, Art Spurlock of Woodville; daughter, Melinda Davis and husband Johnny of Woodville; grandchildren, Jamie Cooper and Meagan Davis; sister-in-law, Erline Ingle; and numerous nieces and nephews.
