The Polk County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call Monday from a female reporting she had been assaulted. Deputies responded and made contact with the caller who displayed visible injuries consistent with the reported assault.
Deputies identified the suspect through the course of their investigation and proceeded to his residence located in the Putnam’s Landing subdivision. Upon arrival, deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect who exited his garage armed with an assault rifle and pointed the weapon at responding deputies.
Following a brief standoff, deputies were able to take the suspect into custody without further incident. Stephen Allen Kasprzak, 36 of Livingston, is currently being held at the Polk County Jail and has been charged with aggravated assault of a family or household member with a weapon and eight counts of aggravated assault against a public servant.
“Our deputies responded swiftly to protect the victim and showed great discipline in resolving a dangerous situation without injury to the public, the suspect or our officers,” Sheriff Byron Lyons said, commending the professionalism and restraint of the responding deputies. He also expressed his appreciation to the Livingston Police Department for its assistance. The case remains under investigation.
