TCAL featuring artist Merlyn McDonald

WOODVILLE – Merilyn Mc Donald has been selected as the “Featured Artist” by Tyler County Art League for the months of July and August.   Merilyn grew up in Beaumont, Texas.  Her Love of art started early.  All through school she would draw pictures of people and design show styles and fashions of ladies’ clothes.  After graduating from high school, Marilyn and her older sister left Beaumont and moved to Houston, rented an apartment and started working.

When she heard that Texas Academy of Art had night classes using live models, she knew that was for her. Her desire was to draw ladies fashions for the newspaper as a fashion artist.  The classes were very rewarding, learning how to draw the human body.  Sadly, the newspaper stopped using original artwork to advertise fashions. After a year she quit going but never lost her love of drawing people.

After living in Houston for three years, she moved back to Beaumont and started going to painting classes taught by different artists where she learned to paint with oil.  After retiring, she moved to Woodville and joined the Tyler County Art League. She took many classes by local artists and learned to paint with pastel and watercolor.  Oil is her favorite medium, but she also loves pastel and color.

Merilyn’s July and August exhibition will be on display at Tyler County Art League. Regular hours are from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in addition to “when the flag is flying”.  The gallery is open to the public and offers a variety of opportunities for the community to become involved in art.
