October events come in like a lion

Well, the 77th Community Fair has come and gone. The weather was perfect as we needed the rain, and the crowd was pleased with the venue. I will not elaborate about the student winners and their projects as the Trinity County News-Standard will have pictures and stories galore in next issue.

The next big Trinity event is the October Festival hosted by Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. The bingo game and dinner are Friday. The arts and crafts show and entertainment will take place on Sunday the 11th.

•When you lose a loved one after 50 years, it is hard to keep up with the changes that occur in the community during your grieving period and the re-adjustment procedures that take place as you are start your remaining years as one unit.

For instance, after 28 years the Trinity City Council Meeting was held the second Thursday of every month, and now it’s on the third Thursday of each month. Not a problem, just change.

Next, we have a new code enforcement officer, Clint Preston. He is introducing orders and fines if you do not comply with the city’s ordinances on file.

I have lived in Trinity for 28 years and never worried about ordinances in the city as I live in the Westwood Shores Subdivision outside the city limits. Ordinances are good, but I am not sure the timing of this new enforcer is good in my opinion, as businesses can barely make ends meet right now, i.e., the closing of Trinity Café is an example.

Insurance companies and utility companies are a breed of their own. If you don’t have coverage on these two entities, you are not only fined, but you can go to jail. Therefore, you must choose to obey the law.

•On a sad note, one of Trinity’s icons died Friday, Oct. 2. His name is Bill Burton. Mr. Burton owns the Napa Auto Part Shop in Trinity. He was Precinct 2 Commissioner for many years and supported many events and charities in Trinity County. He is survived by two daughters, and their grandchildren.

Condolences to the family with their loss and the community’s loss. A graveside service will be held at the Cedar Grove Cemetery on Friday, Oct. 9, at 3 p.m.
