Robert Thurman Cannon, age 93, of Trinity passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at the Trinity Rehab Nursing Home. Robert was born Nov. 11, 1932, in Lovelady, to parents David Cannon and Maebell Dixon Cannon. He was a veteran of the United States Marines, receiving an honorable discharge. He married Sylvia Nichols in Houston on Dec. 21, 1956, and would have celebrated their 70th anniversary this year. After working at several jobs, Robert was called to ministry where he served until his health began to fail. He pastored several Church of God churches in Texas and Louisiana with his last being the Church of God in Onalaska.
Robert is survived by his wife, Sylvia Cannon, of Trinity; daughters, Terry Ridge, of Teague, Carla Hallmark and husband, Douglas Sr., of Olla, La.; grandchildren, Matthew Houston and wife, Monica, of Needville, Sabrina Kelly and husband, Matthew, of Waco, Douglas Hallmark Jr. and wife, Casey, of Trout, La., and Shawnda Tannehill and husband, Jason, of Pollock, La.; great-grandchildren, Joshua Houston, Jacob Houston, Madison Abshier, Kyrsten Hunter and husband, Austin, Clayton Abshier, Tyler Kelly, Jada Hallmark, Nathan Hallmark, Nicholas Pritts, and Lucas Pritts; great-great-grandchildren, Kasen, Landrie, and Baylor; brothers, Eugene Cannon and Paul Cannon and wife, Mary; brother-in-love, Charles Nichols and wife, Betty, of Trinity; sisters-in-love, Ruth Davis and husband, Michael, of Waco, and Brenda Murray of Crockett; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by parents, David and Maebell Cannon; sisters, Mildred Lathrop, Florence Blackmon and Jeanette Scott; and sister-in-love, Peggy Nichols.
Funeral services for the Rev. Robert T. Cannon were held Saturday, June 11, 2026, at Callaway-Allee Memorial Chapel. Interment followed in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday prior to service.
