Betty J. Johnson Alegre, 87, of Woodville, passed away Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Woodville Health & Rehab Center in Woodville, Texas.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. service time on Monday, November 25, 2024 at Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home Chapel in Woodville. Burial followed in Colmesneil Cemetery in Colmesneil. Officiating was Chaplain Gary Post. Serving as pallbearers were Lucas Alegre, Lyle Alegre, Jonathan Carl, Matthew Carl, Kevin Carl, and Gene Travis Alegre.
Betty was born February 24, 1937 to Ludy Odell and Rosie Minerva Riley Johnson in Nederland, Texas. A longtime resident of Tyler County, she was retired as secretary/accountant for Colmesneil Telephone Company. She and Gene had been co-owners of Dogwood Fiberglass. Betty was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Odell and Rosie Johnson; husband of 59 years, Gene Arnold Alegre Sr.; son, Gene Arnold “Butch” Alegre, Jr; grandson, Lee Travis Alegre; brothers, William Henry “Bill” Johnson and Thomas Odell “Tommy” Johnson, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Sanders of Twin Falls, Idaho, Rita Davis and husband Kevin of Bixby, OK, Peggy Carl and husband Kevin of Buna, and Wanda Alegre of Colmesneil; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild.
Memorials may be made to charity of choice.
