Carol Sue Smith, 84, of Spurger passed away October 22, 2024.
Carol was born on September 29, 1940, in Bakersfield, California, to Marion and Pauline Stout. Carol and her loving husband lived in California until they moved to LaPorte, Texas, in 1985 and finally settled in Spurger, in 1992. She was married to her husband for 66 years. During her younger adult years, she played with her daughters for a few years and even coached her younger daughter’s ponytail softball team, taking them to the All-Star series, which they won their first year. Carol was very artistic and loved doing crafts. She would create and make her daughters harvest festival costumes when they were younger. She loved to crochet, sew, cut out the wood, and paint her own large yard decorations for all the holidays. She even helped grandchildren with their school projects for school. She loved to sit on her porch and watch the hummingbirds and squirrels. She enjoyed playing games with her family.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, Marion Stout; her mother, Pauline Stout; her husband Billy Smith and three siblings.
She is survived by her loving family: daughters Donna Sue Smith, Sharol Denise Smith, and husband Johnny Simpson, and Virgie Pauline Murray and husband Bill; nine grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the Riley Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation was held on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Services are held under the direction of Riley Funeral Home, Woodville. 274
