WOODVILLE – Janet Clements is the first showcase artist of Tyler County Art League. She grew up in Chester and was always interested in art, producing many paintings of the local homes and churches. She attended Stephen F. Austin State College taking as many art classes as possible. A friend and fellow artist, Danny Clements, and Janet were married while SFA students. He graduated with the first Master of Fine Arts, and she graduated with a double major in art, an all-level teaching certificate, and Master of Arts degree.
They lived in La Porte for many years: she taught art at the high school; Danny had a custom framing business. After retirement they decided to return to Chester and set up Creekside Studio, their home and studio. With the additional time and space, they have been very productive. They are members and exhibitors at the area art leagues: East Texas Art League ETAL, Tyler County Art League TCAL, as well as Lufkin Art Guild LAG. Last summer Danny had a Retrospective Show and Janet had a show of selected art works at the Cole Art Center in Nacogdoches (the show featured nearly 200 of their works)!
Janet enjoys creating drawings, acrylic paintings, clay sculptures, etc. Her subjects vary from people to rock formations. As her exhibit illustrates, she usually deals with the subject “realistically”, but also enjoys “stretching”, exploring interpretations.
The show will be on display at Tyler Count Art League Gallery in Woodville, May through the end of June. Gallery hours are Monday 9-noon and Tuesday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
