A friend shared this with me and I asked her if I could share it.
“I took a break from my ‘kindness campaign’ after my long trip in April. After visiting many small islands in the South Pacific, where the people have basically ‘nothing,’ but are so joyful and happy, I became so disillusioned with our country … with all the hate and anger that abounds here.
“I met a little girl on Vanuatu…so poor, yet so sweet, so kind. I think about her often. And I realized, if I give up, hate wins. Meanness wins. Intolerance wins. So, I’m back … and I’ll keep reminding you to be kind always. It really does make a difference in the world!”
My friend reminded herself that she would still be kind. Why can’t we do that?
Wasn’t Jesus a very kind man? Acts 10:38 says, “He went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.”
Yes, there are mean people everywhere. We live in a country that reminds me of the children of Israel. They were never satisfied. And many people I know are never satisfied.
I think the words of Glen Campbell are appropriate here:
If you see your brother standing by the road
With a heavy load from the seeds he sowed
And if you see your sister falling by the way
Just stop and say you’re goin’ the wrong way
You’ve got to try a little kindness yes show a little kindness
Yes shine your light for everyone to see
And if you’ll try a little kindness and you’ll overlook the
blindness
Of the narrow minded people on the narrow minded streets
Don’t walk around the down and out lend a helping hand
instead of doubt
And the kindness that you show every day will help someone
along their way
You’ve got to try a little kindness ...
You’ve got to try a little kindness ...
