Shirley Grissom

Shirley Ann Grissom, 79, of Spurger, died Monday, March 17, 2025.  She was born on October 18, 1945, in Troup, to Ruby Mae Rowden Ward and Alton L. Ward.

She was a fifty-eight-year member of First Baptist Church in Spurger and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for one year.  She was always ready to support those in need.   She was a tremendous cook, and she cooked and prepared funeral meals at the First Baptist Church of Spurger for several years.

Throughout her life, she would visit the elderly and sick in the community.  Shirley always would bring food on those visits.  She was a dear friend to everyone she met and a very hard worker.

Shirley enjoyed spending time at the lake, scrapbooking, and playing outside with her grandchildren.  She was a proud mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Shirley would make every event an award ceremony for her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter, Donna Hudson and her husband, Buck, of Spurger; grandchildren, Christopher Parrish and his wife, Chelsea; Brianna Sumner and her husband, Samuel; and Savannah Hudson, all of Spurger; great-grandchildren, Adam Sumner and Abigail Parrish; sister, Beverly Jones and her husband, Darrell, of Gilmer; and brothers, Bobby Ward and his wife, Peggy, of Henderson and Jerry Ward and his wife, Catherine, of Whitehouse.  She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert Leon Grissom; and sister, Glenda Munday.

A gathering of Mrs. Grissom’s family and friends began at 12:00 p.m., with her service at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 21, 2025, at First Baptist Church, 12676 FM 92, Spurger, under the direction of Broussard’s, 490 Cemetery Road, Silsbee.  Her interment followed at Turner Branch Cemetery, Spurger.

The family would like to thank Mrs. Grissom’s caregiver, Lola Sims, and special thanks to Mrs. Grissom’s nurses, Wendy and Rebecca of Olive Branch Hospice. 305
