Standing up to opposition

Posted

Will you read Acts 4:1-4:22?  See how the apostles of Jesus handled opposition to the message of the Gospel.

Someone said, “It’s easy to praise God when things are going well, isn’t it? The boss commended you on a job well done. The kids have been unusually obedient this week. All the bills got paid before the money ran out. Life is good, praise God!”

“But what about when times get tough? Will you praise Him on those days when the boss is getting after you about some looming deadlines? When your home seems to be ruled by chaos as the newness of summer vacation begins to wear off? When there’s more month than you’ve got paycheck, will you praise Him then?”

What would you do if you were threatened to stop talking about Jesus?

The disciples of Jesus didn’t stop preaching because they were threatened.  If anything, they intensified their efforts. Their response to those who would silence them was an attitude of choosing the ways of God over the ways of men.

The religious leaders said the apostles should not say anything about Jesus.  But, in Acts 5:29, Peter and the apostles replied, we must obey God rather than any human authority.
