A four-letter word we all need: Hope – Is there?

Posted

Many people have given up on hope. I imagine that after the crucifixion of Jesus, many had given up. Sadly, some are so ready to throw in the proverbial towel.

When we read of sex trafficking that is reported I have wondered if those who are so abused have given up on hope.

My maternal grandmother made a comment many years ago to the effect that even a cur dog would take care of its pups. But what about human beings?!

When there is no sanctity to life, then it is easy to have people who have been thrown away. When people lose hope, they are desperate.

Many suffer from mental illness. I really believe it is worse than a physical affliction. If you have someone in your life who has had mental problems, you know full well what I am talking about.

Many years ago, there was a man I knew from my early years. He was a schoolteacher and preacher. I did not know his wife suffered from some sort of mental disorder. When she would tear into him, he would be calm and not get angry.

There were accusations made about his personal life. However, the man I knew was very loyal to his wife.

Is there hope? As long as there is life, there is HOPE. As long as we look to Jesus there is HOPE.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame.

Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up (Hebrews 12:1-3, NLT).

“And patience produces character, and character produces hope” (Romans 5:4 NCV).
