Annual sale a rip-roaring success

Posted

Friday and Saturday of this weekend was the Westwood Shores Subdivision Garage Sale. It was a huge success. The weather was beautiful and the different places to shop were inundated by patrons wanting to shop and hunting for bargains. It is true, “One man’s trash is another man’s treasure.”

If you have furniture or large items to sell, subdivision sales are the way to go. Women love to have garage sales in order to get rid of used articles, so we can buy new ones.

My friend left Westwood Shores at 7 a.m. to take her son to Trinity High School, and the line was so long to get back into Westwood Shores on FM 356 that I began to worry that something was wrong. Having lived through five teenage drivers, I automatically think of car trouble or car wreck, not waiting in line to get back into your subdivision. Thank God for cell phones. A lot of fear and anxiety for worriers have disappeared.

The greatest thing about garage sales is you get to visit with your friend and neighbors in one spot. I passed out coffee and Lanora’s home-made candies Friday morning. Everyone was in a good mood because it was real cool weather-wise until 1 p.m. Garage sales are a lot of hard work for the seller. Most items sold in our subdivision garage sale are reusable, re-cyclable, and not outdated.

  • On Wednesday of last week, I borrowed three tables and was told that the First Methodist Church of Trinity was going to have a rummage sale in November. I was ecstatic to learn I would have a place to donate my items and goodies to their cause. One year I donated 108 Christmas Village Houses to their sale. The Church always has a wonderful rummage sale for the Trinity community, and I enjoy going to this event.
  • I have seen boxes placed in many business places and organizational places for the Elf Station Fundraiser held in December. More to come about this in November. They are having fundraisers to buy toys and gifts for our children as we speak now. This is a great cause for the Children of Trinity.
  • At my garage sale this year, I decided to combine with my neighbor Caroline Johnston and donate our monies to the Martin Senior Citizen Center. They feed the shut-ins in Trinity, and this is a hard time for people to donate money in November and December when they need money for children and grandchildren’s needs. We made about $500 in sales and other people gave donations financially also who want to remain anonymous.

Also, the Martin Senior Center is going to decorate the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Christmas Float for the Lighted Parade on Dec. 6. and we are so excited that they will bring new ideas to the project. thank you so much for the River Pointe Health Care Center for sponsoring the Polar Express for four years. The float and staff who decorated the float at River Point of Trinity were awesome and we were grateful for their ideas and sponsorship. Kudos.
