Any anniversary is an event to be cherished

Posted

It is with a great joy that I lived to celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States of America. Another anniversary date I got to celebrate was the 150th anniversary of Trinity. These milestones mean a lot when you are at the end of your lifetime, and you feel much pleasure in being a part of these celebrations.

Other milestones I have celebrated at other places and locations are not really as important as the National milestones I am celebrating now because of my age, for instance, the Trinity Lions Club, The Trinity Community Fair Association, The Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce and SAAFE House.

•On Saturday, July 11, the Eddie and Maxie Dance at the VFW Hall starts at noon and ends at 4 p.m. The cost is $15 per person, and the band playing is Noah Jackson and the Neches River Band. Canteen is open, but snack bar is not.

Also on Saturday, July 11, the Ladies Auxiliary is hosting a Bake Sale at 11:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall on 400 Caroline St., which ends on Saturday at 4 p.m. However, Sunday during the regular afternoon bingo games, the bake sale will still be in progress. For more information, please call Marilyn at (281) 782-8309.

On Saturday, July 25, the VFW is hosting a car show at the VFW Hall Parking lot from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Car entrant’s registration fee is $20. The car show is presented by the Trinity County Back Yard Builds.

There will be a 50/50 raffle, a bounce house for kids, and food concessions held inside the VFW Hall. No Alcoholic drinks permitted outside. Alcoholic beverages sold inside only and must be consumed inside the VFW Hall. You must be 21 years of age to purchase or drink inside the Hall.

First, second, and third place prizes will be awarded for trucks, cars and motorcycles at 1:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit VFW Post 6899 and TCBYB. Please come and support your local veterans of Trinity County.

•I have only one VBS program left to call your attention to being held in July. That is the First Methodist Church of Trinity’s program. Their Vacation Bible School is July 20-24. The theme is Celebrating Kids Road Trip-On the go with God. The program starts at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. You can register now or Monday morning at (936) 594-3826. The age of children to be served at this school is K- fifth grade.

  • Quick list of 2026’s Remaining Holidays and Events pertinent to Trinity City, Trinity County, Trinity and “Me”.
  • Aug. 10, School Starts
  • Sept. 7, Labor Day Holiday
  • Oct. 1-3 Trinity Community Fair Association’s Livestock Show and Fair
  • Oct. 12, Columbus Day
  • Oct. 17-31, Trinity Methodist Church Pumpkin Patch Opens
  • Oct. 31, Halloween Day
  • Nov. 1, All Saint’s Day
  • Nov. 11, Veterans Day
  • Nov. 26, Thursday is Thanksgiving Day
  • Dec. 25, Friday is Christmas Day.

For your information, two holidays in 2027 will be occurring on Sunday that year. They are Valentine’s Day and Halloween’s Day. Most U.S. federal holidays are celebrated on a Monday of a designated month, but few are actually celebrated on the anniversary date of their real occurrence or birthday.

Veterans Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day are always celebrated on their calendar date, but not on the same day each year. Thanksgiving Day is always the fourth Thursday of Nov., but the date will change with the year.

Of course, Mother’s and Father’s days are always in May and June on consecutively the same second and third Sundays of each celebrant’s month date.

April Fool’s Day is always on whatever day it falls on, and Easter is never the same month each year.

Next week I will list the events on the Trinity Community Calendar for 2027.

Now for the long-awaited news of the summer:

•The Trinity Community Fair Association has announced, and sent out their applications for, the 77th Trinity Community Fair Association Event. The applications for booths and projects are on internet. line. First come, first served. A lot of changes. Call Tally Jo Stout for more information at (936) 645-6994.

Each year I try to give you a heads up on the re-occurring Trinity events so you can schedule your holidays on same dates or different times on the same days, if you have to celebrate on these dates, so watch this space in the next issue.

•Past week’s Update:

The fourth of July 42 Domino Tournament was a huge success and the food was outstanding. The dinner on Friday was a real hit, and the fireworks at Westwood Shores Subdivision Friday night were great. The Washington federal celebration was a bust in my opinion, not spectacular at all, but the celebration in Virginia was out of this world, and the music was to die for. Also, the light show with the drones was unbelievable.

 See you around town.
