Arrival of Christmas officially happens Saturday

Posted

What a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner and celebration of life I had this year. It had its sad moments, but it was mainly pure joy. There were 14 people of all ages and walks of life who laughed, ate, and talked about everything under the sun.

For me, it was the first Thanksgiving dinner in 50 years that the patriarch of the family was not there to participate. To be sad would have been a slap in the face to his memory. He was a great human being.

•This week on Saturday, Dec. 6, is the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Christmas Show. This is the 27th year for the TPCC to host this event. Many volunteers and members of the Chamber have supported and helped with this show. Next week I will thank the people who have helped for more than 20 years and remind you of some who are watching from above.

The Trinity Community Center is the location for this event, and the weather is supposed to be sunny that day. There are some new vendors, new performers, and a new parade route for the lighted Christmas parade. The parade will start at the VFW hall on West Caroline Street and travel to Elm Street where it will turn south (right). The parade will then turn west on Main Street and travel to Maple Street where it will turn south and travel on Maple Street to the Black Veterans Memorial Park and disperse there.

For the last 10 years, the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce judges for the parade have been the Trinity County Crime Stoppers members. The organization’s president, Larry Grant, has judged our parade and passed out bags of fruit and candy for the children of Trinity along with TPCC Parade Chairman Matt Budsize and his family. Look for the judges in front of the Family Dollar store and wave. Winners will be announced after the parade at the tree lighting ceremony back at the Trinity Community Center stage.

The Trinity Peninsula Chamber’s Santa Claus Float is being sponsored by Martin Senior Citizen Center this year and they have two prominent Trinity residents who will represent Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus. Look for the present and sign on the float prepared by the Stevenson Distributing Co.

This year three wonderful supporters of Martin Senior Citizen Center refurbished the Christmas float. New paint, new tires, and new lights are not cheap. We are grateful to Mike Fergeson, Gary Marshall, and Bill Brenneman for their hard work, skills, and generosity.

Mark Cole will represent Santa Claus in the annex room for parents to take pictures with him from noon to 3 p.m. The wonderful gift bags prepared by the Trintiy County Crime Stoppers, Santa will be passed out in the annex room also. Stockings will be given away during the s’mores’ activity time at the Trinity Center Pavilion, sponsored by All Around Electrical Services and his family around 4 p.m.
