COLDSPRING — Dee Dee Bailey won the Republican nomination for County Treasurer in the May 26 runoff election, beating opponent Cynthia McClure.
Bailey won by 40 votes, 1,501 to 1,461.
Since there is no Democrat candidate in the race, Bailey should be re-elected in the November general election.
In other GOP races, John Cornyn, a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Senate, lost his nomination bid to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton. Statewide totals show Paxton got 543,272 votes to Cornyn’s 323,454; in San Jacinto County, Paxton received 2,247 votes to Cornyn’s 810.
In the runoff for GOP Attorney General nod, Mayes Middleton defeated Chip Roy 755,593 to 612,171; SJC totals were 1,841 for Middleton and 1,163 for Roy.
In Democrat races, Vikki Goodwin got the nod for lieutenant governor over Marcos Isaias Velez 374,503 to 178,175. SJC totals were 112 to 43.
Nathan Johnson won the nomination for the attorney general race over Joe Jaworski, 332,257 to 216,849; in SJC, Johnson got 80 votes to Jaworski’s 75.
