I remember the first funeral I attended. There was a lot of crying and a lot of remorse. Unspoken words like saying, “I’m sorry” needed to be said, but it was too late.
Now granted, an eight-and-a-half-year-old boy didn’t understand everything that was going on. Now more than 68 years later, I can still remember the various expressions of grief.
Is there someone you need to say “I’m sorry” to, or is there someone you need to make things right with? Think about it please.
I have encountered so many families who have lost loved ones suddenly. It may have been an automobile accident, or it may have been a sudden heart attack. The person who passed away may have been young or old.
And there are those I run into all the time who don’t have any clue as to their salvation.
Sixty-Five years ago on April 24, I responded to the Gospel of Jesus Christ on a Sunday evening, and I was immersed into Christ Jesus (Romans 6:1-5). I had wanted to do that for some time and many of my friends had already responded.
However, my sainted mother said I did not want to be baptized just because my friends were doing it. She wanted me to be sure that I knew what I was doing. God bless her, Mother was right! In fact, when it came to spiritual things she was right all the time.
So, on that Sunday evening I was baptized, not because some friends were doing it but because I understood from God’s Word, the Bible, that I needed to do so (Acts 2:38). It was between me and God, and I wish I could say I always walked the straight and narrow after that evening, but I didn’t. Thankfully the Lord never slammed the door on me. I was welcomed back to be with the faithful time and time again (1 John 1:7-9).
Before it is too late, make sure you are right with God. Before it’s too late, if there’s anything you need to say to someone before it’s too late, do so now.
Don’t take my word for the answer to your salvation. Go to His Word, learn and do what you need to do before it is too late (Acts 22:16)!
