Christmas is just around the corner

Posted

Can you believe it? Only 12 more days until December comes roaring in like a lion.

Saturday, Dec. 6, is the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce’s 27th Christmas Show. All the usual vendors will be attending and the festivities for the day are shaping up nicely. Downtown will be alive with many businesses open on that day, and Santa Claus will make an appearance at the Trinity Community Center from 1 -3 p.m.

You can take pictures of your child with Santa on Saturday, or you can tell him what you want for Christmas also. Then Santa will appear again in the parade that evening at 6 p.m. The parade route is not determined currently, but the theme for the parade is “Trinity Celebrating Christmas, Past, Present, and Future.” We are so happy the citizens of Trinity like to participate in selecting festival themes, and this year’s wonderful theme was selected and given by Opal Dismuke. Thank you so much Opal for your ideal.

The entertainment for this year’s Christmas Show is coveted. The roster is filled, but moments of silence can be filled with hometown extras. Speaking of extras, the Big Feat(feet) Film Co. from California has applied for two booths inside the Trinity Community Center. They will be selling items, and promoting their movie filmed in Trintiy. Who knows? Maybe someone from Trinity could be discovered as the next star of Hollywood.

Entertainment starts at noon on the stage provided by the Trinity Community Fair Association. We appreciate the TCFA’s generosity in supporting the Christmas show every year by providing this stage. The stage has seen grandeur at the Ole Red School House, at the First National Bank’s Parking Lot, at the Trinity Post Office, at the Trinity Community Center with the most showings being for the Fair, and now the Trinity Peninsula Chamber of Commerce Christmas Show. Thank you, Buddy Johnson, and Greg Conner for your faithful help and support for the Trinity Christmas Show.

The entertainment schedule is:

  • Noon: Trinity Tabernacle Pentecostal Church
  • 1 p.m.: Trinity Lions Club and Barbershop Quartet
  • 2 p.m.: Kelly Hartsfield
  • 3 p.m.: Keran DeBose and the Liberty Christin Band
  • 4 p.m.: Danny Cleveland
  • 5 p.m.: University of Sam Houston Jazz Ensemble

The food vendors and craft vendors open their booths at 10 a.m. Entertainment starts at noon. Santa Claus visits at 1 p.m. Stockings. games, and s’mores begin at 4 p.m. The tree lighting ceremony starts after the parade is over (7 p.m.) and the parade winners are announced.

The Lighted Parade starts at 6 p.m. Other activities planned during this time are:

  • Trinity Flower and Gift Shop Open House-9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • The Way You Live-10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • The Wellness Center,
  • The Fitness Center

TISD students have early release day on Thursday. Friday they are normally off, but Monday starts their Thanksgiving holidays. Nov. 27 is Thanksgiving Day, and of course, Black Friday is the next day. Do you remember when any Friday that fell on the 13th of any month was considered a black Friday? Now Black Friday has its own holiday and is followed by Cyber Monday.

•I need to take a break from reality. Latest crisis is the penny shortage. Rounding off to the nearest nickel by businesses because they can’t get pennies is a joke. Why doesn’t the government just say it is too expensive to make pennies today. Maybe because next year they will do away with nickels and dimes. My grandchildren say it is all a conspiracy. Oh, to be younger again and believe in nonsense.

This Friday is Martin Senior Citizen Center’s Thanksgiving Dinner. Doors open at 11 a.m. and service runs to 1:30 p.m.
