Saturday was Christmas in July at Coldspring Courthouse Square. A lot of really good items on sale made it an inviting shopping opportunity. I know I bought some gifts for later in the year and many people went by carrying plants from our Garden Club and Master Gardeners and others. Christmas music was played throughout the day; the whole event was hosted by CABMA.

There were volunteers from churches handing out information about Bible School and other events. Family Faith Coldspring Campus on 12350 Highway 150, invites everyone to the VBS Super Sunday on Aug. 3 at 10 a.m. VBS Kids will perform followed by Carnival Sunday. Aug. 10 it’s Back to School Bash with haircuts, snow cones and giveaways.

Coldspring Methodist Church on Cemetery Road holds Community Adult Bible Study in their Fellowship Hall at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. They will hold a barbecue fundraiser for Missions on Aug. 24. For more information on these and other events go to their web pages or Facebook pages.

Face painting with added jewels was a big favorite with children. Barbara Justice’s grandchildren showed off their designs at the SJC Democratic Party booth, where they collected some goodies to eat later.

Paradise on the Square had a booth too. Owner Helen Marie Johnson greeted everyone passing and as a CABMA board member was looking forward to events in the future. These will be mentioned in this column as we near the dates.

• On Friday afternoon, the day before, friends and family gathered to witness the wedding of two wonderful people. Carson and Luke became Mr. and Mrs. Luke Cowan at a ceremony in the Gazebo outside the Courthouse. Everything was beautifully decorated, and the reception followed later at the VFW Post in Cleveland.

A delicious buffet included a huge wedding cake. DJ’s Dawn and Wyatt played music and people soon got up to dance. Please send your warm wishes to the happy couple. Carson is the Indigent Health Care Director in the Courthouse. She and Luke are both members of Cleveland VFW and San Jacinto County Historical Commission.

• I talked briefly with Sheriff Sam Houston on Saturday at the Christmas in July event. Mrs. Houston was with him, and I asked about the Animal Shelter. It is full of dogs and puppies. Mrs. Houston talked about an older dog whose owner had died. J.J. is an older dog, used to being part of a family and gets on with other dogs. He is a German Shepherd mix and would be a good companion. Call (281) 450-3676.
