At last, some cooler weather. The time will fall back on Sunday, so remember to change the clocks.
Halloween will be celebrated in many places this week. The Haunted Jail in Old Town Coldspring will be open on Friday evening, and Saturday and Sunday too. As well as a scary but fun visit with actors and wonderful decorations, there will be food on sale. Hot dogs, burgers and pulled pork with all the fixings, soda to drink and a chance to see some of Old Town make this a great place to visit.
There will be a Trick or Treat event round the Courthouse on Friday and the SJC Senior Center will hold its Halloween Party that evening. This is an occasion to dress up in Halloween costume. Call (936) 653-4175 for more details.
The Senior Center is also selling tickets for the Women's League fundraiser bingo night. This will be on Nov. 14 from 6 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. Cost is $25 for 10 games.
There will be a Trick or Treat Night in Shepherd at the park beside the Community Center on Oct. 28.

•Shepherd Library worked hard last week on their book sale. The accompanying bake sale by Casey was excellent. I enjoyed the Blueberry and Pumpkin Muffins and ginger cookies. Now, the next big event will be Trivia Night to be held in Shepherd Community Center on Nov. 8. Last year was a big success. Call for details (936) 628-3515.
•I missed the Dunkin' Booth at the fair recently. I asked DeeDee Bailey, our County Treasurer, if she had a photo of her waiting to be dunked. I will be there next time.
