TRINITY — Trinity firefighters were kept busy with fires that broke out in two homes, on that flared back up causing a second response.
Fire Chief Keith Johnsons said that on Thursday, a fire broke out in a mobile home on Bonanza Drive in the Pinecrest subdivision.
The department responded with four trucks and 16 firefighters and extinguished the blaze in approximately two hours.
Johnson said the single-wide mobile home was vacant at the time of the fire. The cause is still under investigation.
Then on Sunday, the Trinity Fire Department, along with Ventura EMS, the Trinity Police Department and Trinity County Sheriff’s Office responded to North MLK Jr. Street for a house fire.
Johnson said the fire erupted at around 8:45 p.m., and when firefighters arrived, flames were showing from the roof.
Firefighters moved to the inside and quickly brought the fire under control, he said.
The fire was caused by a central air heating unit in a hall enclosure and extended into the attic, and caused extensive damage. However, at approximately 3:30 a.m. Monday, firefighters were called back as the blaze erupted again, fully engulfing the residence.
The fire threatened nearby structures, but firefighters were able to prevent an adjacent house from being damaged. However, Johnson said they were unable to save the structure.
The second fire is considered suspicious in nature as it was burning on the opposite end of the structure from the first fire, he said.
The house is a total loss.
