Fun had by all at amazing community events

Posted

What a wonderful October just passed. We finally had rain, and the weather got cool enough to wear a sweater in the morning, and it felt like fall at last. The events that are being tucked away until next year came and went, but they were profitable and fun for the entire community.

For instance, Treats on the Street event was Friday, and a fun time was had by everyone. Candy was the main theme, but some lucky children went home having won bicycles and other prizes. On Saturday evening at Camp Cullen, the Haley Burk Memorial Scholarship Foundation gala was also a success. It was a costumed event where people dressed up in clothes according to their favorite decade and played bingo to win 10 designer purses. I heard they made more than $7,000 dollars. Kudos to them.

•Early voting ended on Friday, and I did my due diligence. Tuesday was the actual voting day for state elections and propositions. We did not have any candidates to vote for on our ballot, but we Texans got to vote on 17 propositions and a bond issue. I voted early, but I was amazed that anyone could actually understand what they were reading. I felt like I was in high school again taking a reading test. I don’t know if I passed with an A or failed miserably.

•On a sad note, on Thursday one of our longtime residents passed away. She was a wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to hundreds of Trinity residents. She was Janet Lynn Allbright. Janet was a beautiful lady who will be dearly missed. She has left behind a treasure trove of memories for all who knew her to cherish for a lifetime.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband of 50 years, Cecil Albright. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Allbright Oeaveym, and grandchildren. Janet is also survived by her brother, Neal Smith, and his wife Kay, niece Chey Smith Dilda and nephew Jason Neal Smith.

Janet attended Trinity High School, class of 1970. Janet was a devoted Christian and was a founding member of the Trinity Tabernacle of Assembly of God. She played the organ and sang for the church, participated in the kitchen committee, and served families and worked with all special occasions for her church community.

Janet attended nursing school and enjoyed working in maternity ward for many years. For 15 years, she owned and operated a day care in her home for family and friends. Janet was artistic and worked for Waller Thornton Funeral Home for more than 20 years creating memorial folders and DVDs for families. I knew firsthand of her artistic ability as I have 7 memorial bulletins she created for the McMichael family.
