GROVETON — Despite big games from Sophomore Haygen Townsend and Senior Carter Cox, the Indians couldn’t overcome the Frankston offense and lost 61-0 on Homecoming night.
More than half of the scores — 34 points — came in the first quarter on the back of the Frankston ground game.
Coming off an impressive 4-0 start to the season, the Tigers opened district with the No. 9 ranked Woodville Eagles, an experienced and tough opponent, and lost 53-6.
The Tigers took the opening kickoff and after gaining 25 yards with a run and pass combination, the Eagle defense took over and forced a punt after consecutive sacks. The fast-paced Eagle offense took their opening drive 75 yards and scored their first touchdown of the game.
After forcing another Tiger punt, the Eagles were able to again march down the field, but a defensive stop by the Tigers forced the Eagles to kick a field goal and take a 10-0 lead.
The second quarter did not fare any better for the Tigers as they were consistently stopped by the Eagle defense and were unable to stop their high-powered offense and the Eagles were able to add two more scores and take a commanding 32-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The Eagles received the opening kickoff of the 3rd quarter and drove the ball 61 yards and extend the lead to 38-0. The Eagles were able to force another Tiger punt and again found the end zone and a 45-0 lead.
The 4th quarter opened with the Tigers in possession of the ball and on a drive that began on their own 30-yard line, were finally able to find the end zone with a 4-yard run by Jonathan Baker. With Trinity trailing 45-6, the Eagles were able to score another touchdown as time expired and defeat the Tigers 53-6.
The Tigers will try and even their district standings Friday night as they travel to Kountz to play the Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Eagles dropped their Friday tilt against Leverett’s Chapel 88-40.
On offense, Nate Sanders completed 21 of 48 passes for 329 yards and 4 TDs. Zeth Dugat carried twice for 24 yards and a TD, and pulled in 7 of 14 passes for 128 yards and another TD.
Rounding out the offense was Noah Thompson, who caught 3 of 6 passes for 62 yards and 2 TD; Preston Murray caught 2 of 3 for 47 yards and a TD; and Peyton Williams pulled in 4 of 9 for 64 yards. Nate Sanders went 5 for 5 at point after attempts.
On defense, Noah Thompson had 13 tackles, Peyton Williams had 6 and Rance Howell had 5, while Drake Pierce caused a fumble and picked up a fumble recovery.
