It is almost fall. The County Fair is here and on Saturday you will have the unique opportunity to dunk your favorite elected official for a fund raiser for improvements to the SJC Memorial Park. There is a long list of those worthy people willing to be dunked in the pool for this purpose.
Starting at 11 a.m., our District Attorney Todd Dillon begins the line up, followed at 30-minute increments by Randy Ellisor, Rae Phillips, Luke Sweeney, Donny Marrs, Crystal Dominy, Christine McGee, Kim Webb, Mark Nettuno, Brian Cosme, Sheriff Sam Houston and ending with DiAnna Bailey, or as we know her, DeeDee our County Treasurer, who has worked hard to get this Memorial Park project going.
If you do not recognize the names of some of the participants, Look them up. Constables, Commissioners and Justices of the Peace are giving their time and energy to this worthy cause and in a fun way. The last one, DeeDee, will be at 4 p.m. It will be $5 a throw; $10 for three throws; or $20 for a guaranteed dunk button.

•Both political parties met this month on Tuesday 9. The Democrats met at the Family Restaurant and Daiquiris to Go in Shepherd. Guest speaker was Dr Bryan Taulton, Superintendent at COCISD. He explained to the group the details of the upcoming Bond Issue to be voted upon. It is for $45 million and includes renovation of areas as well as new tennis courts and much more. The meeting was a long one and to know more on this subject go to the website for the district. Food was served and as always was delicious.
•The Republican Club served food and it was enjoyed by everyone. The Chair Dwayne Wright gave a detailed talk on the recent legislation from the Capitol. There are 17 propositions to be voted on. Some are quite complicated to understand so please read them in this newspaper, or from your party's Facebook pages, so you will have time to decide before the day.
•SJC Women's League had the first lunch meeting of the season on Thursday. Dr. Tamyra Comeaux, MD, was the guest speaker. Her talk was very interesting. Titled "Make Your Second Act the Strongest," it focused on looking after our health before we start to feel older. Dr. Comeaux has a practice in the Woodlands and was a very engaging speaker.
Our new caterer is Mary Gray who served an excellent meal to the ladies. Our President Mary Ann Pittman announced we have a new Treasurer, Jessica Rutherford, and next month guest speaker will be Suzanne York. The tables were decorated in memory of 9/11/2001.
•The Impact Center has redecorated their tree for the new season. It’s a wonderful idea to change the decorations to match the season or holiday. Thanks, Impact Center.

•Last week I met Tracey Nelson, dog trainer and winner of this year's regional competition, held in Arkansas. This win means she is automatically entered in the international competition in Nashville in November. Tracey's dog Kai is a Belgian malinois, a breed created by the Belgian Police to work with them. He is a very large dog, 4 years old, and his father and grandfather reached the highest level of competition, level 3. Only 50 dogs in the world have reached this level.
Kai is at level one and ready to move up. Tracey trains dogs. They stay with her for 4 weeks and learn to walk to heel, stop and stay to command, heel on the leash, to answer when called and much more. Obedience is the key to a happy dog and owner, and Tracey is very recommended with five-star references on Facebook at AllstarKnine. Tracey lives in Coldspring; call 916-661-2084.
•Did you know there ia a group of community members who have come together to form the Child Welfare Board? This group works alongside CPS and other local partners to support kids who have been removed from their homes because of abuse or neglect. They help provide such necessities as beds, clothing and hygiene items. They donate birthday and holiday gifts and emergency supplies.
The Child Welfare Board works to protect and care for the most vulnerable kids in our community. If you want to know more send a message, connect with Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Kim Webb.
