SJC Democrats held a fundraiser in Shepherd on Friday for Valorie Barton, candidate for District 18. Held at the Family Restaurant, the occasion was also a chance to view artwork exhibited by T. Wyatt and auctioned off with a percentage going to the fundraiser. The following day there was a No Kings Rally in Coldspring Courthouse Square. The theme was Make Sure to Vote. This attracted people from other areas nearby who enjoyed the cooler weather.
•Coldspring Senior Center had Fish Friday last week, sponsored by McMurrey Insurance Agency. Sheriff Sam Houston was there with his department team to celebrate his birthday. Everyone sang “Happy Birthday” to him and the cake and ice cream served after the fish lunch was perfect.
Meanwhile at Shepherd Senior Center, the ladies in the kitchen worked hard to provide and serve the delicious lunch and ice cream dessert on Wednesday and every other week day, but Wednesday is Bingo Day before lunch. Gregg Cones sings after the bingo ends and I get to take photos of Renee Beshears and Roxanne Miller in the kitchen. Both centers have hardworking and very good cooks. It is good to recognize them since they are hidden in the kitchens most of the time.
