The Coldspring Lady Trojans continue to blaze their way through district, keeping their undefeated streak alive with another 3-0 sweep. After taking down New Waverly, Crockett, and now Onalaska, the Trojans sit atop the standings.
The Sept. 30 victory over Onalaska was all Lady Trojans, with set scores of 25-8, 25-18 and 25-20. The Trojan side of the gym was packed, as students, parents, and fans filled the stands to keep the energy high and the momentum rolling.
From the first serve, Coldspring left no doubt. The opening set was pure domination, holding the Lady Wildcats to just 8 points. Onalaska showed fight in the second and third sets, but the Trojans’ speed, aggression, and teamwork proved too much.
Coach Dwain Anderson praised the team’s preparation and fast-paced attack:
“We practiced all week trying to go a little faster. We knew Onalaska was going to be a fast team, better than last year, and they were going to come out and play. We just wanted to attack the blocks and keep them on their heels as much as we could.”
Ashlynn Holley said, “It was really great having a big crowd to support us. Keeping the energy up helps so much. We know what everyone’s expecting of us, so we came in and gave it our all.”
Tess Phillips said, “We didn’t really know what to expect, but we played our hearts out. That’s what really helped us take this win.”
Then on Friday, the varsity-only matchup with Trinity put another tick in the W column, as Coldspring downed the Lady Tigers 3-0 (25-14, 25-8, 25-18).
Anderson said the real test will be against Anderson-Shiro, a perennial powerhouse, on Tuesday.
Still proving to be one of the most improved teams in their district, the Lady Pirates continue to battle through one of the toughest 4A divisions in the UIL. Friday night’s matchup against Hardin Jefferson was another test of their determination.
Despite falling in three sets (25-9, 25-17, 25-11), the Lady Pirates fought for every point, showing true Pirate Pride from start to finish.
Aliyah Thomas led the attack with 4 kills while Jazilyn Richardson had 11 assists, and Abbey Anderson had the defense with 7 digs.
On Sept. 30, Shepherd fell 3-0 to Hamshire-Fannett.
Brooklyn White had nine kills on the night while Richardson posted 18 assists. Swayzie Nelson had 14 digs, and Richardson and White each posted 12.
