The Coldspring Library fundraiser Murder Mystery Dinner was a big success. Everyone had a good time and were well entertained by the actors who picked a person from each table as a suspect.

We ate beef and chicken with vegetables and cake catered by La Place. Trish Matticks, owner of La Place, organized the serving of the meal and the young student volunteers were excellent in their work.

At the end, awards were given to Best Hollywood Costume, Best Death, Best Suspect and more. Margaret Williams won Best Costume, Gregg Cones won Best Suspect and Jerry Schuette won Best Death. Jerry died so quickly as he slid off the chair that I was lucky to get a photo of the event.

Thank you, Linda Almaguer. Each table was given a binder with clues and photos to help them work out who was the killer. It was not an easy job since there were a lot of twists and turns in the story. Congratulations to Coldspring Library and all who worked so hard to make the evening fun and interesting.

•Coldspring Garden Club had a very interesting presentation on Thursday from Phyllis Campbell. Her talk on Helping Birds through the Winter was beautifully explained with PowerPoint and actual bluebird houses. Phyllis had a wealth of knowledge on Hummingbirds and especially bluebirds as well as many others.

The group had a lot of questions which she answered. One I did not know was not to use millet as feed. This attracts birds who kills and destroy eggs, chicks and nests, so for bluebirds feed sunflower seeds, suet, etc., but not millet.

•Coldspring Chamber of Commerce is ready for its annual Car, Bike and Truck Show. Held at the Wolf Creek RV Park by the Lake, this is a spectacular event and well worth a visit. It runs Oct. 18-19 and begins at 8 a.m. each day. Call the Chamber for more information. It is $5 for spectators with food, games, vendors and a Kids Zone as well as the fabulous vehicles on show.

•The Dam Liquor Store is part of the Browder’s Marina business although it is a separate entity. I was surprised to see the great selection of wines and spirits inside the store. It is also colorfully decorated on the exterior as you will see from the photo of Ms. Few receiving the Business of the Month.

•The San Jacinto County Historical Commission is busy with Halloween and archiving all the paper and photo collections which have been stored in the museum over many decades. The latter is progressing but since The Haunted Jail is a fund raiser and will be open at the end of the month, focus is more on decorating the Jail Museum and getting the actors ready for their part in scaring people.
