New year, new horizons, and maybe some resolutions

Posted

The weather for the last few days before Christmas was awesome. It was foggy, but the temperature was above 70 degrees every day and days following thereafter. When you are my age, 70 degrees is still sweater weather.

That is unbelievable to me. You have no control over your body and its idiosyncrasies when you pass 70 years old. At 60 years old when it was 70 degrees outside, I was burning up. Who knew?

The Martin Senior Citizen Center had its second annual Christmas barbecue luncheon on Dec. 19, 2025, and it was a great hit. There was music, Santa Claus pictures, games, and lots of door prizes for everyone.

The Center was closed on Thursday and Friday for the Christmas holidays as well as many other businesses and service offices, like the Post Office, the doctors and dentist offices. However, the nursing homes and TDCJ operated as usual. There were more restaurants open on Christmas Day than I have seen before. It may be signs of less celebrations on Christmas Day to come.

Last year, 2025, was very eventful for me with many life changes and sadness. Every year I always make New Year’s resolutions, but my main goal in 2026 is to survive.

I want to visit family in Austin, Houston, and Dallas, and have lots of pleasure rekindling old memories, but most of all I want to get rid of all the paperwork I don’t need. Why we keep so much junk I do not know. Even digital copies of pictures and recipes are ridiculous.

I have thousands of saved pictures and event flyers in my phone app, and I barely even look at those. The world has become minute pills, and we don’t really go back and look at items for pleasure. We are too busy working and playing.

It is hard to believe our year is gone and today it is 2026. I have made only one resolution and that is to take care of long overdue appointments, i.e., eyeglasses, teeth cleaning, and doctor’s wellness check-up to renew needed meds for the year.

I need to be healthy to attend some of my favorite events about to happen in January and February.

Now for the continued events in 2026 for us to look forward to attending.
