New year, new round of fabulous days

It’s hard to believe another year has passed and we are on to 2026. By the time you read this article, the yellow buses will be back on the streets, and we will have to be on the lookout for children crossing the streets and getting off the buses.

The law says cars must stop when the buses brake or stop to let on or off students. A lot of motorists disobey this law, especially if it is a four-lane highway. Why?

Lenten holidays and dinners TBA

Easter Sunday is April 5.

•At this time, I will give you some heads up on activities that occur monthly. For instance, the Dinner with Friends is Jan. 20 at the First Methodist Church, 301 N. Elm St.

The dinner starts at 4 and ends at 6:30 p.m. The menu is a spaghetti dinner with all the trimmings. Games. music, and fellowship abound with a donation appreciated at this time. For more information, call Laura at (936) 594-3826.

The Methodist Church has announced the return of the Piapagorsky Concert on Feb. 13, in the Sanctuary at 6 p.m. The concert is free, but donations are appreciated.

The next Women’s Celebration to be held at Trinity Methodist will be in March. Watch this space for information.

•The VFW is also getting ready for the Easter Celebration Activities held at the VFW Hall on 400 Caroline St. There will be games, Easter Bunny photos, golden egg prizes, and a raffle for three Easter Baskets. The Easter Celebration will be April 4, and start at 10 a.m. For more information, please contact Marilyn Barnes at (281) 782-8309.

On Saturday at the VFW Hall, the Eddie and Maxie afternoon dance starts at noon and ends at 4 p.m. Jan. 10. Beside the Country Western music dance, there is a bake sale that starts on Friday and ends on Sunday afternoon when the Bingo Bash closes. The dance is $15 per person.

The Bingo Bash on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday is still paying out big prizes to encourage people to come, use the facility, eat, and meet new people. The public is invited to attend. Call Marilyn if you need details.
