If one didn’t know better, they would have thought they were at a pep rally instead of a school board meeting Tuesday when the Livingston ISD Board of Trustees met and approved the employment of Tucker Carter as the district’s new athletic director and head football coach.
Members of the Livingston Royal Brigade Band, cheerleaders, dozens of students and parents turned out en masse with balloons, pompoms and banners to welcome Tucker and his wife Hayley, an elementary school teacher, to the district.
“As Livingston ISD turns a new page and begins to set a new path forward, it is with great pleasure and anticipation for our future that I recommend for hire Coach Tucker Carter as the athletic director and head football coach for our Livingston Lions and Lady Lions programs,” LISD Interim Superintendent Janan Moore said.
“Thank you everyone for being here. Since the moment I started looking at this job I could feel the passion and excitement in the community. I’m extra excited about being here. I’m here to bring the energy back, get the kids involved and build the program,” Carter said.
Carter graduated from Allen High School where he was the quarterback. He played college football for the University of Texas at San Antonio. He has 10 years’ coaching experience at Bonham High School and Whitehouse High School. He also worked for Performance Course Incorporated in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for several high schools as the program director for summer strength and conditioning training across various age groups for both male and female athletes.
The board heard presentations on behalf of three different firms that are vying to be the firm selected to assist the district with conducting the upcoming superintendent search – Colby Nichols of Ancira Strategic Partners and Andrew Tatgenhorst of Thompson and Horton LLP, Joe Dan Lee of Texas Association of School Boards Executive Search Services and Danny Lovett of Powell Law Group LLP.
Former Superintendent Dr. Brent E. Hawkins left in January to take the superintendent’s job at Copperas Cove ISD.
